CAN YOU IRON A SUBLIMATION JERSEY? IRONING AND STEAMING GUIDE
Your sublimation jersey came out of the package with wrinkles, or it's been folded in your kit bag too long. Can you iron it? Yes, but carefully.
IRONING RULES
Turn the jersey inside out — always iron on the inside, never directly on the printed surface. Use the lowest heat setting (synthetic/nylon setting). No steam while ironing directly on the jersey. Don't press hard or hold the iron in one spot. Keep the iron moving constantly.
STEAMING IS SAFER
A handheld garment steamer is the safest way to remove wrinkles from sublimation jerseys. Hold the steamer a few inches away from the fabric and let the steam relax the fibers. This avoids any risk of heat damage to the print.
THE BATHROOM TRICK
Hang the jersey in the bathroom while you shower. The steam from the hot water relaxes wrinkles naturally without any heat contact. This works for light wrinkles and is completely risk-free.
PREVENTION
Store jerseys on hangers or folded neatly — don't crumple them. If packing for travel, fold along natural seam lines and place between other clothes. Polyester has decent wrinkle resistance, so jerseys stored properly rarely need ironing.
