JERSEY NAME PRINTING: FONTS, STYLES, AND PLACEMENT OPTIONS

By Team Athenax · May 2026 · 5 min read

The name on the back of your jersey is as personal as it gets. Getting the typography right makes the difference between a jersey that looks professional and one that looks amateur.

FONT CHOICES

Bold, sans-serif fonts are the standard for sports jerseys — they're readable from a distance and project strength. Fonts like Impact, Bebas Neue, and custom athletic typefaces work best. Avoid thin, decorative, or script fonts that become illegible at a distance or during fast movement. Your name should be readable from at least 20 meters away.

NAME VS NICKNAME

You can print your surname (most common in professional sports), your first name (more casual and friendly), a nickname or gamertag (popular in amateur and esports), or an abbreviation. The choice depends on your team culture and the formality of the competition.

PLACEMENT AND SIZING

Standard placement is across the upper back, above the jersey number. Letters should be 5-7cm tall for optimal visibility. Names with more than 12 characters may need smaller font sizing or abbreviation to fit within the standard print area. For curved or arched text, sublimation handles this perfectly since the text is printed as part of the full design.

SPECIAL CHARACTERS

Names with dots, apostrophes, or non-English characters can be accommodated in sublimation printing. If your name includes special characters, mention this when placing the order to ensure proper font support.

All name printing is included in our jersey price — no extra charges. Browse designs and tell us your names.
