JERSEY NUMBER RULES FOR DIFFERENT SPORTS IN INDIA
Different sports have different rules about jersey numbers. Getting it wrong can mean your team faces penalties or isn't allowed to play. Here's the definitive guide.
CRICKET
No strict numbering rules in amateur cricket — players can choose any number. In professional cricket, numbers 1-99 are standard. Numbers must be clearly visible on the back. Some leagues require numbers on the front too.
FOOTBALL
Numbers 1-23 are standard for a matchday squad. Goalkeeper must be easily distinguishable. In amateur football, there's more flexibility, but keeping to 1-99 looks professional.
KABADDI
Pro Kabaddi League uses numbers 1-99. Numbers must be on both chest and back. The captain's jersey doesn't have a special designation beyond the armband.
VOLLEYBALL
Numbers 1-24 are standard. Front and back numbers required. Minimum size: 10cm front, 15cm back. The libero must wear a contrasting jersey color.
BASKETBALL
Traditional numbers were 0-5, 10-15, 20-25, 30-35, 40-45, 50-55 (referee hand signals). Modern rules allow 0-99. Numbers must be on front and back.
