UNDERSTANDING COLOR MATCHING IN CUSTOM JERSEY PRINTING
One of the most common frustrations with custom jerseys is the color looking different from what you expected. Understanding why this happens and how to prevent it saves time and disappointment.
WHY COLORS LOOK DIFFERENT
Your computer screen uses RGB light to display colors, while printed jerseys use CMYK inks on fabric. This fundamental difference means what you see on screen may not perfectly match the printed result. Additionally, monitor calibration, ambient lighting, and fabric texture all affect color perception.
HOW TO GET ACCURATE COLORS
If exact color matching is critical (for brand consistency), provide Pantone or CMYK color codes rather than just sharing a screen image. Most companies have brand guidelines with specific color codes. If you don't have Pantone codes, share a physical sample of the color you want — a fabric swatch, a printed business card, or any physical reference.
WHAT WE DO
At Athenax, we calibrate our printers regularly for color accuracy. We provide digital mockups for approval, and for critical brand colors, we can print a small test swatch before the full production run. This ensures the color matches your expectations before we commit to printing 50 jerseys.
