SUBLIMATION VS EMBROIDERY: WHEN TO USE WHICH ON JERSEYS
Sublimation and embroidery serve different purposes on jerseys. Understanding when to use each — or both together — helps you make the best choice for your team.
SUBLIMATION: THE FULL DESIGN
Sublimation handles the overall jersey design — all-over patterns, gradients, color blocks, team names, player numbers, and background graphics. It's the foundation of any sports jersey, providing unlimited color coverage across the entire garment.
EMBROIDERY: THE PREMIUM TOUCH
Embroidery adds a 3D, textured, premium feel to specific elements — typically logos and small badges. An embroidered logo on a sublimation-printed jersey combines the best of both worlds: full-color design with a premium logo that you can feel with your fingers.
WHEN TO COMBINE
Corporate and polo-style jerseys benefit most from the combination. The sublimation handles the base color and any patterns, while the company logo is embroidered for a premium finish. Sports jerseys typically use sublimation only, as embroidery adds weight and cost.
COST CONSIDERATION
Sublimation printing is included in the base jersey price. Embroidery is an additional process with per-piece cost that increases with design complexity. For most sports teams, sublimation alone provides everything needed.
